Wyoming Machinery Co. Supplies Mining Industry
In a state that produces nearly 40 percent of the nation’s coal, Wyoming has created significant opportunities for companies that serve its active mining sector.
The effect on Wyoming economic development is undeniable. About 7,000 Wyoming workers are employed in the state's mining industry and an estimated 18,000 jobs are connected to servicing that industry, supplying everything from communications to explosives.
For more than 40 years, Wyoming Machinery Co. has sold and serviced heavy equipment used in industries such as construction, energy, forestry and mining. The company sells, services and rents Caterpillar products such as tractors, excavators, off-highway trucks, backhoe loaders and pavers. The company, the only Caterpillar dealer in Wyoming, is also a major parts distributor, service operation and components rebuilder, and seller of used equipment.
The company, which serves 16 counties in Wyoming, has locations in Cheyenne, Casper, Rock Springs and Gillette, where a 170,000-square-foot expansion took place in 2009. The expansion in Gillette was designed especially to handle oversized equipment Wyoming Machinery customers use, including the largest haul trucks and dozers. The expansion, which created 20 jobs, also offers extensive rebuild capabilities for customers similar to what Wyoming Machinery offers at its Casper location.
Wyoming Machinery is also a large employer in the state, with a workforce of around 800, including about 400 at its 500,000-square-foot complex in Casper.
