Dr Pepper has Rich Texas History

“There’s nothing like a Dr Pepper,” a thirst quenching bottle of liquid sunshine. But where did this soda begin?

Although the company Dr Pepper was founded in San Antonio, Texas, the soft drink began with humble beginnings in Waco, Texas. In 1885, pharmacist Charles Alderton got the idea for the unique taste while working at the drug store, so he decided to create a soda and serve it to customers at a soda fountain.

With no further plans to pursue, and with an increasing demand for the beverage, it was taken on by Morrison and Robert S. Lazenby, who formed Artesian Mfg. & Bottling Company that later became Dr Pepper Company.

The refreshing beverage was sampled by more than 20 million people who attended the World’s Fair Exposition in 1904.

Today, there is a Dr Pepper museum located in downtown Waco. The museum was formerly used to manufacture the product. It provides an exhibit and replica of the soda fountain where unique taste was created.

Although the name has unclear origins, the product is made of 23 flavors and is still in the top five of America’s favorite soda brands.

Throughout the years the look has changed, but the taste is still the same.
