General Electric has opened its GE Appliance’s GeoSpring Hybrid Water Heater manufacturing facility at Appliance Park in Louisville. The $38 million investment in the new product and a revitalized facility is the first realization of commitments GE has made since 2009 to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Louisville and create more than 1,000 new jobs in Kentucky by 2014.
Flexible packaging company UFLEX Ltd. will locate its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Hardin County, Ky., The new location project will occur in phases, initially creating 125 new jobs and a $90 million investment, ultimately doubling in scope for a total investment of at least $180 million and 250 jobs.
Ford Motor Co. plans a $600 million investment at its Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP) that will transform the complex into Ford’s most-flexible, high-volume plant in the world. The state-of-the-art facility will build the next-generation Escape for the North America market starting late next year and will require the addition of a second shift, creating 1,800 jobs incrementally above current staffing levels.
