Some heavy hitters in technology, auto production and aircraft manufacturing lead the pack on a holiday week of site selection and job creation developments:
Apple is investing in a major way in Nevada. The company plans to invest more than $1 billion over the next decade on a 350-acre data server center for its cloud computer service near Sparks, and a regional business, purchasing and receiving office in Reno’s downtown district. The projects will create more than 235 jobs.
Alabama has landed Airbus. The European-based aircraft manufacturer will place its first U.S.-based production facility at the Brookley Aeroplex in Mobile, where it assemble the A319, A320, and A321 aircraft. The entire project represents a $600 million total investment and is expected to create up to 1,000 jobs within the production facility when it reaches full capacity.
In Mississippi, Nissan is expanding its Canton operations, adding production of the Nissan Sentra compact car to the plant’s production line-up. The addition of the Sentra, along with an increase in production capacity, will create 1,000 new jobs at the automaker’s Canton facility.
Nearly 700 jobs are coming to Northern Kentucky. Elovations Services Group LLC will locate its new e-commerce center in Boone County. The $13.7 project will be housed in a 150,000-square-foot facility that will serve as the company’s parcel grading and processing center for e-commerce. The facility will receive parcels sold to international buyers, validate, repackage and manage the required customs processing.
In North Carolina, a German-based manufacturer of adhesive tapes, coatings and laminatings, plans to set up its first U.S. production facility in the Charlotte USA region. 3F North America Inc. is setting up shop in a 65,000-square-foot facility on 13.6 acres with I-85 frontage in western Mecklenburg County.
In South Carolina, Porter’s Fabrications, a maker of metal components, announced plans to expand its existing plant in Sumter County. The $2.5 million investment is expected to generate 60 new jobs.
