Big Deals: Rounding Up Top Location and Expansion Projects

In case you missed them, some major deals from around the country this week:

General Electric has opened its GE Appliance’s GeoSpring Hybrid Water Heater manufacturing facility at Appliance Park in Louisville. The $38 million investment in the new product and a revitalized facility is the first realization of commitments GE has made since 2009 to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Louisville and create more than 1,000 new jobs in Kentucky by 2014.

Union Pacific has announced a $200 million capital investment that will expand the company’s South Louisiana operations, creating 225 new direct jobs, retaining 1,100 employees and creating 1,500 construction jobs. The project also will result in 502 indirect jobs, for a total of 727 new direct and indirect jobs. More on Union Pacific’s investment here.

Amazon.com continues its spate of locations announcements. The online retail behemoth will open a 1 million-square-foot, $90-million, warehouse facility in Middletown DE, creating more than 850 full-time jobs. More on amazon.com in Delaware here.

Zumiez Inc., a leading specialty retailer of action sports related apparel, footwear, equipment and accessories, will move its e-commerce fulfillment operations from its headquarters in Everett, WA, to Edwardsville, KS, creating 100 jobs. Read more here.

Also in Kansas, YRC Freight says that by the end of the year it will relocate 120 positions to its headquarters in Overland Park KS. The move will consolidate operations within its YRC Freight division from a number of facilities outside of Kansas. The positions moving to Kansas will include accounting functions – payroll, pricing, accounts payable and analyst positions – as well as customer service representatives and cargo claim teams.
